The ultimate security sweep for the Prince of Peace

What is Advent? It is waiting for the arrival of something important.

The more important it is the more we prepare. Today I want to look at the activity that goes into preparing for the Prince of Peace to arrive.

Problem 1: In myself I don't meet the requirements.

Problem 2: I am naturally blind to the requirements.

There is no experience of advent for people who do not prepare properly. The Prince of peace will not come to me and I would not be allowed in unless I as the Holy security manual dictate.

Sin likes to hide. They are like IED (improvised explosive devices)

We have a strong tendency to defend our thoughts and actions.

Do good securities sweeps for the Prince of Peace and you will have peace.

Example: If I do it, it is OK. If some else does it, it is wrong.

Conclusion: Come to our senses, because our sin likes to hide and not come to the light.

I must be willing to go where in my protection and security mentality refuse to go; the cross. I will meet a Prince of peace and be healed. This is a daily activity. Allowing the Holy Spirit to do the work our natural selves dislike.

Over time IED"s get secretly planted. I become preoccupied with daily concerns, bills to pay and just trying to relax and enjoy life. Any of those activities can choke out the peace of Christ in my life. Going to the cross in repentance and faith is our salvation and allowing the Holy Spirit to do the secret service work of Christ.

Example: The secret service makes it their mission to uncover any danger to the president's peaceful and productive day. The president has a security briefing often.

The Holy Spirit makes it His mission to uncover any sin that will endanger the peace and productivity in our growth in Christ. We need a security briefing daily with the Holy Spirit.

Conclusion: We cannot rely on ourselves. How do we not rely on ourselves? We must daily ask the Lord for help. Simply surrendering it all to Him. Turning everything over to Him and following His instructions. He is our Lord and helper. We fail when we do not rely on Him to prepare us for His arrival and work.

If you do not daily ask for his help, start today. Discipline yourself to ask him to help you go to the crucified Christ where all your healing and peace are found.

Following that example we quickly find ourselves in the midst of the greatest betrayal of all time. Judas may have expected Jesus to foil the pharisees as he made a little money. It is at the place of embracing your situation as Christ embraced his suffering and betrayal you will experience the release of God's power.

As we look at today's world we see a lot of things that manifest the lack of fear of God in our hearts. This reality causes us to be humble before the Lord as we feel the heart of the Lord. All the pain, hurt, sorrows... Knowing that today this nation has turned its back on the Lord and if we are Christians that pray, that act according to Gods will and His heart we will feel what He feels.

All of this takes us to one conclusion: What have we done to influence our kids and grand kids, teaching them about our God and what He has done for us?

Mark 11, First, Jesus was on His way to spill his blood for us from the many holes that would be pierced in His flesh. Holes in His head, holes in His hands, feet, side and back. He is worthy to be praised continuously.

Secondly, Jesus was on His way to cleanse the temple of Herod. Today we are the temple. He kicked over benches and tables on which activities not meant for the temple were being conducted.

Today Jesus comes into our lives. If we are conducting activities not meant for His temple, once again He will cleanse the temple with means that may surprise us as much as the money changers were surprised in Herod's temple in Jesus day.

Mary's humble loving faith guided her through all the difficulties of being a pregnant unmarried woman preparing to give birth to our savior. We, when we accepted Jesus, became pregnant by the Holy Spirit and Jesus is being formed in us. It is not easy being pregnant. Our bodies go through many, many changes.

There are voids, unformed area's of our life that Christ has yet to be formed in. Don't give up God wants to give you gold tried in the fire (faith), white robes (acts of kindness) and salve for your eyes (humility) to reach the goal of the loving image of Christ in our lives.

The feeding of the five thousand by Jesus in Mark 8 gives us two powerful challenges, directions, and perspectives.

The first is what most Christians work on applying. Taking time before the day begins to give Jesus every part of our day. Placing everything in his hands and asking him to bless it. Jesus then breaks it and gives it back to us to be nourished by.

The second perspective is that in our current day and age we are now the body of Christ. We then rise from our knees as Jesus did and walk into the tumultuous activities of daily life. God opens doors into peopleâs lives through their needs as we bump into them in various ways.

Jesus asked what people needed. We follow his example as his body and also ask. Jesus prayed for them as an example for to us to follow. We pray and then step forward in faith in whatever way necessary.

This is the second mile this is being the salt and light that brings glory to God.

Clean and Unclean

1The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and 2saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were "unclean," that is, unwashed. 3(The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.^[a])

5So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with 'unclean' hands?"

6He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
   " 'These people honor me with their lips,
      but their hearts are far from me.
7They worship me in vain;
      their teachings are but rules taught by men.'^[b] 8You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."

9And he said to them: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe^[c] your own traditions! 10For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,'^[d] and, 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.'^[e] 11But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), 12then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. 13Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."

14Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' "^[f]

17After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18"Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")

20He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "

He and his wife Sarah left their original home and travelled through places they had never been before. By faith, their hope was to receive a homeland that had no origin in human aspirations or construction. Rather, they looked ahead, not behind, to receive a homeland designed, conceived, and created by God.

By faith we, who have believed in Christ, are also migrants. Our home is not here, but rests in the heart of God. Therefore, though we live on this planet, though we have learned values based on the things of this world, we pursue those things no longer. Rather, we long for righteousness, mercy, and love, values grounded in the kingdom of God. We look ahead, not behind, for Abraham's real homeland, too.

Are you prepared to journey into joy? Where will your current direction take you? The gospel of Mark, when put into practice will take you to a fruitful place in your life that will give fullness of joy. The first cry of the book of Mark is to prepare!!! Examine your life and acknowledge your guilt. That is step one. Step two is to begin to follow Jesus in the little everyday opportunities. We will examine as we go where they are and what to do. God be with you in your journey to joy and the vision for the next step. So start by sitting quietly and asking God for the help you need to be prepared. Another daily practice, I will encourage since we are told to pray without ceasing, is as follows. Pray the Lord's Prayer (Mt 6:9) in the prayer pattern of the apostle Peter in the book of Acts at 9am, noon and 3pm. It only takes 25 seconds but in those 25 seconds you are bringing to your mind, seven key principles in following Jesus, you are praying the perfect prayer, you are building your faith by hearing the word of God spoken from your lips and you are a step closer to praying without ceasing.

How far do we allow our minds to wander?

The apostle Peter wants our minds too ponder the truth of our faith with every bit of concentrated effort.

What is a specific way Peter urges us to make every effort?

A fight against thoughts we know are greedy or immoral, Peter says is critical. We will at some point encounter teachers who will subtly encourage you to allow sinful, lustful thoughts to linger in your mind. Jesus died for you so it is ok. He'll forgive you. It is easy to forget that we were cleansed completely from our old sins and now to not make any, none, no room at all.

We are called to be holy in our thinking. If we lose that battle in our mind, we will lose the battle in our hearts and once we lose our hearts, we could return to the vomit like a dog or the mud like a pig. It would be better if we had never known the truth. 2 Peter 2

Thank Jesus for his salvation and fight, fight, fight for clean thinking.

Learning to Walk

There are three basic positions that must be taken in order to walk. The extended position, the recoil position and the passing position. 3rd John covers these three positions. The extended position is a position of hospitality. The recoil position is a positiion of prayer and the passing position is a position of passing on an example to others. 40 Days for 40 Years

There are moments in history when a door for massive change opens, and great revolutions for good or evil spring up in the vacuum created by these openings. In these historic moments key men and women and even entire generations risk everything to become the hinge of history, the pivotal point that determines which way the door will swing.

The rebellious generation of the 60Ãïïs seized its moment, and history crashed into the deep abyss of drug addiction, sexual immorality, hatred for authority, and a rejection of the law of God. 1967 was a culminating and defining moment in that rebellion. In 1967, 100,000 young people, aged 15-25 flocked to San Francisco to experience the hippie movement. This mass convergence was sparked by the hit song, San Francisco, (Wear a Flower in your Hair). Once there, they experimented with LSD, pot, casual sex and Eastern mysticism in what became known as the ÃïïSummer of Love.Ãïï

When these newly recruited Flower Children returned home at the end of the summer, they brought with them new styles and ideas, flooding the cities of the US and Europe with a message that opposed authority and scorned conservative morals. This counterculture rebellion was fueled by music and art, and it rapidly shifted global culture.

For 40 years we have been falling headlong into a black moral morass in America and all through the west. We are reaping the waves of destruction in every sector of our post Christian society. Can America survive another 40 years? We are declaring NO! A thousand times NO! Unless a massive spiritual shift occurs at this moment our children will live under an antichrist system and Godless enculturation that will bring about the demise of America, as we know it.

But God has a prescription for such a massive shift and it is revealed in the power of the great transitional 40-day fast. God in His sovereign control over the parade of history delivered the Israelites out of Egypt. Longing to release a moral code that would give foundations for righteousness, for time and eternity, God summoned Moses to a 40-day fast on Mount Sinai. In that fast all of history changed and the law of God was delivered from heaven to earth. And if America is going to return to God it must recover that law again as its foundation for truth.

Elijah, at the height of JezebelÃïïs cultic dominion over Israel fasted 40 days, broke the spell of Jezebel off of his own life and received a mandate to anoint the next generation. That fast unleashed a movement that toppled JezebelÃïïs regime of hell, which perpetrated the destruction of family, the killing of innocent children, the silencing of the voice of GodÃïïs people and the widespread culture of sexual immorality. The fruit of that fast culminated in the utter destruction of Baal worship in Israel.

Also in the fullness of time the glorious gospel era was born when Jesus fasted 40 days and those who sat in darkness saw a great light. Clearly the 40-day fast is heavenÃïïs great transitional prescription, moving nations from failure to fulfillment of promise. Is it any surprise that when Jesus was to enter into His great sacrifice where death would be swallowed up in victory, Elijah and Moses appear with Him on the Mount of Transfiguration. All three of them were together as the 40-day fasters. They presided over the great transitions of history.

John Honan - As we read 1 John 3:1-10 it mentions the family of God into which we born and adopted. We are doubly secure in Christ. Not only that but our sins are lifted off, taken from us and put far, far away. Now that makes us free. Freedom is now, not something I hope for. But how do I experience that freedom today? Earlier in 1 John we are called to confess each sin, then we must exercise our faith in the death of Jesus for each sin and see ourselves completely free from the sin confessed and exercise that freedom by choosing to love each other, not with words but in clear, practical acts of patience and kindness.

Sunday Message April 1st John Honan Are you stuck in sin? Looking for a way out?

First be willing to say that sin is sin and not make light of it. Agree with God that it needs to go. Confess it.

Second, look at what God's basic commands are. 1 John 3:23 says "Believe in the name of Jesus Christ and love one another."
Can you believe that Jesus will help you? You are commanded to believe that. Choose to believe in the power and ability of Jesus Christ to save you from sin now and forever. He has promised to provide a way of escape when you are tempted. 1 Corinthians 10. Ask God to show you the way of escape and take it.

Third, choose to love the people God has put in your life. Your sin brings them down spiritually and in other ways you may not see right now.

Repeat this process whenever you sin. Persevere in this and you will become a mature saint reflecting a conformity to Christ.

The overriding principle of 1 Corinthians stands in this: Christ Jesus is Lord. Therefore, everyone who claims Jesus as Lord needs to live his/her life in keeping with what Christ wants. Jesus does not force his lordship, our submission is willingly given. But if we have chosen to give him lordship over our lives, then his call is that we live that way.

The Lord Jesus calls men and women to live as Jesus himself lived: not for his own gain, but for the gain of others. So we love as he loved.

John Honan - There are bible chapters that are famous for certain topics. Hebrew's 11 "The faith chapter", John 15 "The abiding chapter", Psalm 23 "Shepherd's chapter" etc. 1 John 1 to me is "The fellowship chapter". The secrets to true fellowship are found here. It starts with how real we see Jesus who came with real flesh and blood. Jesus' physical body was just like ours, except without sin. If we accept him fully as complete man and complete God we can have complete fellowship with him. Secondly our fellowship with each other is based on how completely we walk in the light. We walk in the light completely by acknowledging our sin and confessing them. The blood of Jesus is in full swing cleansing us and opening guenuine fellowship when we walk in light and not in darkness. Some people are hard to relate too. Each day, ask God to bless them and forgive you for any bad attitudes. This is walking in the light and this is how your joy with Christ and other Christians will be full.

1 Corinthians 15:35-58

Paul continues his discussion about resurrection to show that resurrection makes sense. (a) In order for a seed to grow into a plant, the seed must "die." If the seed does not yield itself, then no plant grows. (b) A seed has a certain shape, different from the plant that grows from it.

In the same way, our present material bodies are like the seed. The material body must die, it must yield itself, so that a "spiritual" body may arise from the ashes. It is substantive, but has qualities the former body does not have: the new is imperishable and immortal. (The former was perishable and mortal.)

This new, spiritual body is not to be confused with a non-physical existence: rather, it is to be "further clothed" than ever before (to borrow from 2 Corinthians 5:4). It is a body like that of the Risen Christ!

When these things take place, and they all take place in the order and timing of God, then death itself will be destroyed, swallowed up in the victory of Life! Consequently, and despite the challenges to the contrary, every work the believer pursues with great diligence is not in vain in the Lord.

What do you love? Wickedness? Truth? Love for the truth is something everyone can have. It is God's desire for you to be filled with love for the truth. If you want love for the truth, you must first accept the truth. Jesus is the truth. Accept Jesus by faith into your heart by simply asking him in prayer. Now love for the truth (in Jesus) is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit! Wow, say something like, "Lord, please fill me with love for the truth. I open my heart to the love your Holy Spirit gives us. Thank you for filling me with love for the truth! Amen
In the second chapter of second Thessalonians, Paul goes on to tell us that Jesus won't come back untill the great rebellion occurs against God and then the Anti-Christ comes on the scene in world wide power. Well, befor there can be a great rebellion their must be a great revival. So at this time we are seeing great momentum world wide in people come to Christ. This will continue till the glory of God has swept the earth and people have had the chance to "taste and see that the Lord is good." Then the great rebellion will occur. In the meantime... lets keep doing good in Jesus name by praising him, loving each other in practical ways and sharing what we have with those around us. This combined with prayer will open the door for the good news and great glory to spill into our world till Jesus returns.

He notes that if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, then the basis of the church's faith is vitiated.

How can a people, whose very existence depends upon the notion of a resurrected Christ, conclude there is no resurrection of the dead? Paul's first argument presents evidence from eyewitnesses to the resurrection. Paul's secondary argument is that the church exists for no other reason than Christ's resurrection. Without resurrection of Christ, there is no church.

Christ, the Risen Christ, now reigns while every enemy is being put into subjection to him, death itself being the last enemy to die. And then, at the End, Christ delivers his kingdom to God, and bows in complete surrender himself to God, so that his God becomes all things to all peoples. This event raises all sorts of questions in our minds, rife with speculative answers. But we simply say, "Praise God from whom all blessings flow!"

1 Corinthians 14:20-40

The Corinthian assemblies were undisciplined, chaotic, confusing events so that (apparently) when visitors might attend the assembly they would respond saying these people were mad. Paul's responds to say that God does all things in decency and in order, and the Church should do so likewise. He explains that tongue speakers, prophets, and certain disruptive wives need to hold their peace. There is a time and place for speaking, for asking questions, indeed, for challenging whatever is said.

But what takes place during the assemblies of the whole congregation needs to be done in a way that edifies, that engenders love for God and growth in Jesus.

To the measure we seek intimacy with God and obey him is the measure of God's presence in our lives.

Jesus did what he did as a human just like you and me, but he was without sin. He had a completely intimate relationship with the Father. He had an unlimited anointing of the Holy Spirit but he turns around and says we can have that same relationship and we can have the same results and we need to not settle for less.

But we cant go for the power. We have to go for being clean. We have to go for pursuing intimacy with the Father that loves us dearly. We have to yeild ourselves to him, wanting Him to be free to work his plan in us. Knowing it is an ongoing progressive thing that will work over time to give us our full inheritance and make us like his character. That we can be what he said, we can be full of power.

1 Corinthians 14:1-19

Paul now returns to other aspects of the Corinthian assemblies. He establishes the purpose of the customary, weekly, Lord's day assembly: to build up the body of Christ.

Any worship activity that inherently fails to strengthen others, needs to be set aside. For example, though speaking in tongues may allow one's own spirit to address God, it does no one else any good, because no one understands the language. So, if there is no one to interpret the language, then such activity needs to be kept to oneself and the Lord. Paul gives another example to say that prophets, though speaking by the Spirit of God, must take turns in their speaking so that everyone may have opportunity to understand and to evaluate what was said.

Paul's interest, in short, is that genuine love prevail so that each person may use whatever gifts one has to help others be edified. And not to grandstand or show off.

How does one live out the call of Christ on his or her life? The "most excellent" way is the way of love.

But this love is not merely a sublime feeling or emotion. It is a love that makes a demand on one's life to behave in a certain way. It is a behavior that pursues the best outcome for another's life.

This love is a way of patience, of kindness; a way that erases wrongs against one; it is a way that protects and endures. Even when we don't feel like it.

This love is eternal, not only in the sense of duration, but in the sense of quality. To walk out Jesus' call on our lives is to love passionately the best interests of our fellows.

In modern American society, there is little if anything that symbolizes to people generally that one honors some else by their dress. In Corinthian society, however, headgear in the Church's assembly spoke volumes about honor and dishonor toward others.

Paul's writing to the Corinthian Church is very clear: Men and Women have differing places related to honor and dishonor. How men and women relate to one another has root in the fact that Jesus himself has a head, an authority, over him: God. The relationship, consequently, that people have with Christ, is modeled by Christ toward God.

May women pray or prophesy alongside men in the church's assemblies? The answer is: Yes. But.

Whether a man prays or prophesies, or a woman prays or prophesies, they each must demonstrate that they are in subjection to their respective heads. This is accomplished when the man who prays or prophesies must do so with his head uncovered. Otherwise, he dishonors his head. A woman who prays or prophesies must do so with her head covered. Otherwise, she dishonors her head.

In short, when the church has assembled (similar to our present-day "regular" Sunday morning services), a man who prays must not have a hat on, a woman must have a hat on. If they are not praying or prophesying, then there is no discussion about their headgear that applies.

Paul reminds the Corinthian church of his right as an apostle of Christ to them. After he establishes that right, he refuses to take advantage of it. He wants them to learn humility in order that their arrogance not destroy them.

Paul then shows the Church how he sets aside his personal advantage in order to focus on the work Christ has set out for his people. He calls the Church to do likewise.

Paul's own focus is to become all things to all men so that by all means "some may be saved."

Does the Law of Moses hold for the Church?

In the Roman letter, as in the Galatian, too, Paul argues the inadequacy of the Law of Moses to help people become holy. Paul shows that while knowledge is powerful, knowledge does not guarantee prescribed behavior. Knowledge of the Law does not give the will power to obey it. Rather, knowledge has emphasized all the more keenly the failure to behave in a way consistent with holiness.

Yet, there are several places in the New Testament (NT) in which we find an appeal made to some aspect of the Mosaic Law. When Paul levels the charge against the man who lives with his fatherÃïïs wife in 1 Corinthians 5:2, he makes an implicit reference to Deuteronomy 27:20, ÃïïCursed be he who lies with his fatherÃïïs wife, because he has uncovered her who is his fatherÃïïs.Ãïï The phrasing of the Old Testament (OT) passage leaves no ambiguity: it is of no consequence whether the fatherÃïïs wife was mother to the son. Now, it hardly seems likely that the woman was the manÃïïs actual mother. Nonetheless, the prohibition stands against any son of a father who would lay with his fatherÃïïs wife, whomever she may be.

We also note Romans 7:1-3. In 7:2 Paul says a woman is bound Ãïïby law to her husband as long as he lives.Ãïï Paul will again make use of this same marriage ideal in 1 Corinthians 7:39.

The Law of Moses does not hold as the means or evidence of covenant relationship with GodÃïïs people. Rather, the sacrifice of Christ does this. However, the ethics of the Law still point Christians to GodÃïïs desire for their obedience and walk with Christ.

PaulÃïïs authority, and its moderation

Scripture indicates that the apostles form an aspect of the foundation of the Church. For example, Ephesians 2:20 indicates that Jesus is the cornerstone for the Church, the apostles and prophets are the foundation, and individual Christians are the stones or bricks that make up its structure. This whole become the temple in which dwells God by means of the Holy Spirit.

Despite the place and authority that the apostle holds, Paul rarely makes overt use of this authority. He prefers to persuade disciples of Christ through dialogue. (See also 2 Corinthians 4:2.) He prefers to appeal to their better judgment, indeed, to their love.

An example of this stands in Philemon 8-10. Paul writes, ÃïïThough I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for loveÃïïs sake I prefer to appeal to you Ãïï I, Paul, an ambassador and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus Ãïï I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment.Ãïï

Here Paul indicates his prerogative as an apostle of Christ to command Philemon to accede to his will, but Paul expressly states he prefers to appeal to PhilemonÃïïs better judgment. Indeed, to PhilemonÃïïs love.

In 1 Corinthians 5:3-4, Paul exercises his apostolic authority. He allows for no discussion of the matter, and directs the Church unequivocally to the outcome of the affair.
