Stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.

How do I recognized when an evil spirit is directing what is spoken? 
How do know if it is the Holy Spirit who is speaking? 

1 John 4 begins with the answer to these questions then moves into:
What is God's love? 
How can I experience a complete and perfect life? 

Connecting with God's love through the Holy Spirit is a choice God wants us to make.

It is time well spent for the farmer to till the soil till it is soft and mellow.  It is even more essential for us to acknowledge our guilt over sins of all kinds till our heart breaks under the pressure and opens up to God in deeper ways.  Once this is accomplished, we will sense a new desire for prayer and holiness in our lives.  We will then find faith in really drinking in God's word in prayer and fellowship.  Having done that we must pray for the Lord to show us how to express the fresh love of Jesus to others.  Not a selfish love that protects our comfort and security, but a sacrificial love like Christ that produces changed lives.
